Members of the Alliance
This trans-NIH scientific consortium is comprised of seven Tumor Glycomics Laboratories through the National Cancer Institute, the Consortium for Functional Glycomics through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and the Glycomics and Glycotechnology Resource Centers through the National Center for Research Resources. Each NCI-supported Tumor Glycomics Laboratory has a different approach and concentration to exploit the potential of glycomics to yield biomarkers for early cancer detection. Not only are glycans abundant molecules, glycome profiles are tissue specific, and it is likely that different tumor types can be distinguished by their glycan profiles. The Tumor Glycomics Laboratories use various technologies to investigate complex carbohydrate biochemistry, and use this information to develop new cancer biomarkers.
